Access Platform Hire
In Bristol

Access platform hire in Bristol starts with a practical question: where must people work, and what prevents them reaching it safely? A vertical mast, scissor lift, articulated boom or compact spider lift may each suit a different site. Our enquiry process helps you put the relevant details together before equipment is specified.

Choosing From The Main Platform Types

A vertical mast platform can suit compact indoor maintenance tasks where a small footprint matters. Scissor lifts provide vertical access and useful deck space. Boom platforms provide horizontal positioning, while spider lifts may help when restricted entrances or difficult routes rule out larger chassis.

Choose by the actual task rather than a familiar machine name. If you are unsure, describe the work and provide photographs. Explain whether the platform needs to move between several positions, work close to overhead structures or operate around an occupied building.

Define The Working Position

Give the height of the task and the nearest safe standing position for the machine. Record any horizontal offset and any obstruction between the two. Include the number of people, tools and materials so the proposed platform has enough rated capacity for the complete load.

The nominal working height is not the same as platform floor height. Supplier specifications use particular assumptions, so confirm the basket or deck position needed for your job. Never plan to gain extra height by standing on rails, boxes or improvised equipment inside a platform.

Commercial Settings And Restrictions

Factories may have production traffic, overhead cranes and restrictions on ignition sources. Offices and schools may need work scheduled around building users and protected escape routes. Warehouses may require aisle closures, controlled delivery times and a clear charging plan for electric equipment.

Make these conditions part of the original specification. The machine, delivery plan and safe system of work need to fit together. A platform that reaches the work but cannot be unloaded or moved safely through the site is not a workable hire choice.

Equipment-Only Or Operated Access

Equipment-only hire leaves the hirer responsible for providing a competent operator and site arrangements within the agreed terms. Familiarisation on a specific model is separate from general operator training. Ask what handover information is supplied and who will be available for emergency ground control.

If you want operated access, include the scope and expected working hours in your request. The quotation should explain who performs the elevated task and who operates the machine. Agree responsibility for supervision, traffic management, rescue arrangements and any specialist permits.

What Affects An Access Platform Quote

Machine category, required envelope, power type, rated load and hire duration all influence price. Transport can be a material part of the total, particularly where unloading access is restricted. Unusual working hours, operator provision or a site assessment may change the scope.

Ask for a written breakdown that covers delivery, collection, charging or fuel, and damage or insurance conditions. Confirm how extensions and off-hire notice are handled. Availability is specific to dates and models, so a general enquiry is not a confirmed equipment reservation.

UK Duties And Safe Use

The Work at Height Regulations 2005 require suitable planning, supervision and competence where work at height is involved. PUWER 1998 covers suitability, maintenance and training for work equipment.

LOLER 1998 adds duties for lifting operations and examination. Agree who plans, supervises and carries out each part of the work. Equipment hire does not transfer all site responsibilities to a supplier.

For equipment-specific advice, read the HSE MEWP safety guidance. The final selection and safe system of work must reflect your site and the manufacturer’s instructions.

Planning Your Hire

  1. Explain The Task

Send the site postcode, work description, approximate height, outreach and preferred dates. Add a photograph if machine choice is unclear.

  2. Check The Constraints

Review entrances, floor loads, terrain, power, people and overhead hazards. Match the proposed platform to the full site conditions.

  3. Agree The Hire Scope

Confirm the model, delivery, operator responsibilities, documentation and rescue plan. Review the equipment on arrival before work begins.

Access Platform Hire Questions

All hire questions
Which Access Platform Do I Need?

The access platform you need depends on height, horizontal reach, load, ground conditions and access restrictions. A scissor lift suits work directly above its base, while a boom reaches away from it. Send a site photograph and task description so the proposed category can be checked before a model is selected.

Can I Arrange Access For An Occupied Commercial Building?

Access platform hire for an occupied commercial building needs a plan for people, exits and routine operations. Explain delivery restrictions, working hours and the areas that can be closed. Electric equipment may be appropriate indoors, while charging, floor loads and a practical rescue method still need to be agreed for the specific task.
